Unplugging from the Commercial Software Grid: Open Source is not Three Guys in a Shed Anymore.

Since Wes Fryer called me Oklahoma’s “Open Source Yoda turned Wyoming Cowboy”in a recent post and has given me the opportunity to write while he is away I thought I would hit on one of my favorite topics for my final post while he is away, Open Source Software (OSS). Please let it be noted…

Welcome Back Crusty Neverchange: Improving Communication with Students inside Moodle with Avatars

Intro

This is an update/redo of a 2011 post but it came up yesterday because I brought back to life a character my ol' buddy Scott Charlson and I used several times a few years ago. I reintroduced him in a Google Apps for Education Session I did yesterday at the Montanta Mountain…

Why Google Analytics Tells me the Mobile Moodle from Martin Post on Moodle News is Important

I was just thinking that the reason for this post may be obvious to some, but not necessarily to me. The world is going mobile!  Sure it is all around me but I have always been a bit of a skeptic (no more like) slow mover on this one.  Sure you might say look around everyone is going mobile, people are dropping land lines, the Apps business is going wild(Who doesn't have Angry Birds on some mobile device) etc etc etc.    Personally, I really don’t like typing with my…

Moodle vs. Blackboard: Trends vs the Rhetoric

Moodle v. Blackboard has been a battle which has had many issues over the years.  It is always fun to watch the rhetoric such as that shown in the video interview of Moodle Founder Martin Dougiamas and a Blackboard spokesman.

Several years ago when Blackboard asserted patent claims patent on learning management system technologies Moodle seemed to be relatively unscathed by this as a huge LMS community backlash against Blackboard…

2004 Redo Thoughts from the Wiche Conference 2004 The beginnings of Moodle at WOSC

I was just thinking while I was cleaning out my mailbox and ran across this info. What as difference 6 years makes. However it was this meeting that really propelled us to our search for Moodle which has been as close to a culture changer for an institution as I have seen.

WICHE conference notes 2004:

In summary this was the best conference I have been to in a long while. Very

much worth it and full of info we can use and apply. I would be happy to speak

with you… Continue
