Our Move to Google Apps for Education: A Rationale for Western Oklahoma State College

Western Oklahoma State College IT began using Google Apps as a pilot in 2007, we moved faculty and staff to Google Apps for Education in 2008 and and we moved students to complete our trek in the summer of 2009.   When rolling out the student portion we did not fully eliminate our old student email which was provide by OneNet, Oklahoma's Telecommunications network.  We let existing students stay on the old server and signed them up for email…

Improving Communication inside Moodle: Virtual Puppets, Animated Characters and Avatars in Course and College Communications

 

Intro

The online classroom is still seen by some as lacking the human “connectivity” of face-to-face courses(Kelly)(Vrasidas, and Stock McIsaac 22-36).  In an online course we lose eye contact, body language and other non-verbal cues which are available to the instructor, as well as students, in the traditional face-to-face instructional setting.
